Bringing Good Tidings

Bringing Good Tidings
by Linda D. Knight
It’s that time of year again!

People busily preparing for a celebration that we have made out to be all about us, when in fact it is all about the greatest gift ever given to mankind!

It was not a new car, a fifty inch high definition television, the latest cell phone, or even the latest Mattel toy.

No, this gift was more precious than anything we could ever imagine – the birth of the Savior of the world – Jesus Christ!

Luke 2:7-11 says: And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, “Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.”

Wouldn’t you like to have the opportunity to bring the same type of message that the angel delivered to the shepherds?

Guess what? You have the opportunity each day to “bring good tidings!”

Yes, you as a disciple doing discipleship work, have the awesome task of telling the world the good news that a Savior has come to save you; to give you an abundant life; to give you a personal gift to edify the body of believers; to give you a purpose to satisfy your existence here on earth; an opportunity to live out that purpose; and to give you the blessed assurance of eternal life!

You ask, “Why is she bringing up discipleship when Christmas is about to come?”

(Just like every other day of the year) I want to bring the good news:

– just like this angel in Luke 2;

– just like Peter when he stood up and delivered the Pentecost sermon;

– just like the Ethiopian eunuch shared the Word in the desert;

– just like John the Baptist in his foretelling of Christ’s arrival;

– just like Noah preaching about repentance before the flood;

– just like Paul and Silas shared salvation with the jail keeper;

– just like Jesus Christ when He came with the news of how we can be set free from the bondage of sin;

– and just like every person who has boldly shared the Gospel with

a sinner!

Yes, discipleship is wrapped up, tied up, and demonstrated through the birth of that little baby boy who would grow up to yield His life for the redemption of mankind!

Now, that is good news!

UPDATE: YOU ARE A DISCIPLE, AND YOU ARE MANDATED TO “BRING GOOD TIDINGS.”
